Somebody was weeping,
wailing actually; it was laborious
to know who as a result of we wore masks
in these days—

maybe we do nonetheless.
The sunshine outdoors was, as they are saying,
autumnal, as lavish and unforgiving
as god. The wailer

didn’t cease, and finally,
as a result of nobody will get in or out
of Kroger quick, we tracked him,
a bagger, bawling

like a baby, a few of us
asking one another if he was
okay, understanding and listening to,
in fact, he wasn’t.

And although we could have
pitied him, we didn’t
go to him, he whose cry
was each performative

and cathartic. It could be
correct to say that I personally
envied him just a little
and admired him so much,

however wouldn’t have
traded locations. I bagged my very own
groceries on the self-check
and received the hell out,

the keening lastly behind me,
although I couldn’t cease
listening to it. Leaves flipped
us off with their golden

fingers, the clouds held again
a darkness—you could possibly inform—
whereas the solar, effectively,
the solar was so sturdy,

I didn’t even must
look that showboat immediately
within the eyes for my eyes
to fill with tears.
