New Delhi:

Rahul Gandhi cited a quote from Mahatma Gandhi after a Surat courtroom pronounced him responsible in a 2019 legal defamation case over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surname. 

Mr Gandhi was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment however was later granted bail and his sentence was suspended for 30 days to let him attraction the courtroom’s judgment.

“My faith relies on fact and non-violence. Fact is my God, non-violence the means to get it,” Mr Gandhi wrote on Twitter. 

BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi had filed the defamation case towards Mr Gandhi for saying, “How come all thieves have the widespread surname Modi?”

Mr Gandhi made these remarks throughout a rally at Karnataka’s Kolar forward of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 

The Congress chief was current in the courtroom of Chief Judicial Justice of the Peace HH Varma through the verdict.
